Dortea - Cabernet Sauvignon Planted 2001 After many years of growing world class mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, the Seller decided to create a new vineyard that would redefine Cabernet Sauvignon. After tasting every nuance and flavor these soils and unique climate impart into the vines, the Seller believes he has accomplished his goal. Named after his mother, Dortea, is a vineyard that will set the world on fire and reaffirm the "King" of red wines. The Seller has chosen the 1103 Paulson rootstock with a 337 French Cabernet clonal selection to match the reddish brown, rocky, gravelly loam soils of our Sobrante/Suther/Laughlin soil series. The 1103 rootstock has been perfect (moderately vigorous) for our limited mountain soils and with proper amounts of water and nutrients. The first production this year has resulted in intense fruit exploding with flavors of dark cherry and hints of cinnamon. Dortea is planted in a north to south orientation to capture every bit of sunlight and exposure our 2,300 foot elevation commands. Its vertical trellis system and its 6 by 9 spacing gives each vine its own "niche" on our hillside enabling it to balance itself delicately and seek its own perfection. Wines produced from this fruit will indeed be wines of great distinction.
